JOHNNYSWIM on Honest Songwriting, "Drunks," Sacred Spaces, and Why Music Brings People Together: Episode 31
C
18:47Maybe when you're songwriting or thinking about the messages that you're putting out, how do you make sure that you are, you know, expanding but also staying true to what you believe? It's really hard w- if you're a, if you're an artist, yeah.
19:06
I think, uh, like you said, because of especially political climate for us, um, you know, I think being a Christian has come to mean something that you're like, "Yeah, I'm this kind but not that kind," and I feel like there's more and more people that are like, "No, I'm that kind, not this kind." Um, and you know, that, that can get tricky, you know, uh, uh, you know, always.
19:24
We've never, we've never put any limits on ourselves as far as, you know, what we would say or not say.
19:29
I mean, there's literally a song about a hallucinogenic drug, you know? H- psilocybin that I just mentioned.

Um, I had COVID a couple times, and then, like, my body just kind of went haywire.
Amanda SudanoGUEST
It was, it was kind of like six months after having COVID all of a sudden, like, one day I woke up and was like, "I do not feel well." And then it kind of just got worse, and there was, like, we happened to be on tour, so it was a very difficult tour.
Amanda SudanoGUEST
And then we got home, and I thought, "Okay, as soon as I get home and I just can sleep for a little bit, get back to my normal schedule, I'll feel better." And then it was like, "Oh, no, I'm just gonna be in bed for months." Um, and so it was really hard.
Amanda SudanoGUEST
I'm still kind of in the process of figuring out what exactly happened and how to fully heal from it.
