First tell me how you got into coaching, and then we'll transition into, like, and then where did human design come in?
3:35
Yeah, absolutely.
3:36
I will say, I don't think you necessarily need other tools.
3:40
I was not searching for a tool when I discovered human design.
3:44
But yeah, so I'll back up.
3:46
So how I discovered coaching, I was working in a very high-intensity job.
3:52
It kind of consumed my whole life.

10 MINS LATER

13:47
It was, like, tangible.
3:18
Amanda, how did you get interested in studying death metal singing?
3:23
Yeah, so these extreme metal vocalists use a completely different, um, pattern of vocalizing than we see in other styles of music.
3:32
They tend to have a lot more activation of the supraglottic structure, so the things that are happening, tissues and muscles, et cetera, above the true vocal folds.
3:43
And so when we think of, uh, of a singer, they use mostly this kind of pitch of their voice in, um, their singing that is mostly just true vocal folds.
3:53
Extreme metal vocalists use everything under the sun, including the true vocal folds, but they don't oscillate them in quite the same way that we see in a clean style of singing.
4:05
And part of this work is, if we can really hone into the structures that are being used for each of these screams, anatomical structures, tissues within the throat, then we can help better define these things for coaches, for the artists themselves, as well as the scientific community.

10:13
I mean, it's obviously cool, but is there also an application? (laughs)
10:16
Oh, it's h- it's huge, um, from how we are gonna approach rehab in treating different voice disorders, to swallowing, Parkinson's disease, esophageal problems, and swallowing.
