But there is something psychological about some of these things, and I, and I do think as I was reading some of these cases about the gym teachers and this and the that, that maybe there was something about the culture of impunity and the role of being around children that attracted people to these professions in the first place.

Yeah.
16:02
That is, you know, that was a question that I asked a lot of these experts, like, do we, from what we know, and it's again, it's, it's hard to get into the psychology of a lot of, of these perpetrators, and that's part of what was so unique about the Child Victims Act was it allowed us to dig into thousands of cases and just this trove of information.

But I asked, you know, do we mostly see people who are attracted to the profession because of these nefarious reasons, or is it people who are once, once they're there, you know, the system kind of allows it? Like I mentioned, Carol Shakeshaft, who is actually the one who initially did the research that showed that one in 10 kids at some point during their K12 experience will face some sort of sexual misconduct.

And I wanna be very clear, that is not the same thing as sexual assault.
16:46
Misconduct is a much wider umbrella.
