Before you get into the nitty gritty, I'd like to ask, what does a school psychologist do?
13:55
The part that takes up probably the most of our time because we are the only ones qualified to provide these services have to do with identifying students with disabilities.
14:04
We are the only employees in the public school system who are qualified to provide psychological assessments.
14:11
And these assessments are a required aspect of identifying a student with an educational disability.
14:17
either to receive special education services or to receive services through what's called a Section 504 plan.
14:24
A Section 504 plan is under the Office of Civil Rights, and it's for students who have some kind of condition that creates a barrier to their learning, but not to the extent that they require special education services.
14:36
The special educators are the ones who do the educational assessment to look at a child's reading, writing, and math skills.
18:27
you have an understanding of how many of those 20,000 are dealt with internally within MCPS by MCPS school psychologists versus those that are outside?
