Have you always been a gardener, or did growing food come later in your life?

When I was a kid, I'm from a place called Launceston, which is a small city that's grown in Tasmania, and my parents had your stock standard house, three bedrooms on a stock standard section, and my parents' garden, they liked it very orderly.

Bless them.

And my brother gardened.

He was perfect.

He would go out and he'd lift the spade and turn the dirt.

But I cooked, and my mother let me make as much mess as I liked so long as I cleaned it up.
