And how do I adapt to the environment, like on a circadian rhythm and maintain good, low stressor hormones, elevating the anabolic ones? Well, San, I appreciate
4:22
the question.
4:22
And there's a lot there, right? So there's two things I have to say before I can answer the question directly.
4:28
The first is you touched on something there that's really important in the fitness world, health and fitness, nutrition.
4:36
There's a lot of information in the world as if there's a bunch of siloed goals around fitness.
4:43
I want six-pack abs.
4:44
I need to lose 10 pounds.

24:10
But people don't get that.
0:55
It's probably a good tip, mm-hmm.
0:55
Um, but so, so my, my...
0:57
And, and, you know, don't worry, my kids aren't these sad, deprived little humans.
1:01
Um, so my, my seven-year-old, uh, I coached a soccer team last night.
1:05
We just- we, uh, we played a game of soccer, and they were running on the field, you know, 100 miles an hour, right? And, and so he comes off the field, gets some water, and we're headed home, and it's about to be bedtime.
1:15
He goes, "Hey, Dad, what can I do for my post-workout carbs tonight?" He's seven, okay? So he knows that he just wore his butt out, and it's about bedtime, and so he's going to bed and he's hungry.
1:30
And, and he knows that, that in our house, if you're gonna have cookies or you're gonna have candy or you're gonna have a soda, right, you better sure as heck just done something intensely active to require that, that extra carbohydrate, right? And so, uh-

23:54
Yeah.
16:53
Mm.
16:54
So, so for instance, uh, I, I'm a big proponent of fasting, not intermittent fasting as it was marketed 12 years ago.
17:01
I think peptides is the new intermittent fasting personally right now [laughs] 'cause give it, give it 12 years.
17:06
So, so, so anyway, the fasting as a practice means, uh, simply my metabolism is either digesting foods that I've eaten and supplying my body with nutrition from that digestion, right? Or my metabolism has a complete other side to it, which in the abundant Western world many people haven't experienced on purpose, which is-
18:22
Yeah
18:22
... uh, carbohydrate in your muscles, that's stored glycogen.
18:26
When you run out of carbohydrate in your liver, that's stored glycogen.
18:30
When you run out of carbohydrates coming from your digestive tract, then your body's like, "Uh, where are we getting our energy from?" And, and the human body is so powerful.

That's 1800flowers.com/podcast.
0:30
Yeah, so one of my areas of research and interest is in the way our belief changes how our body physiologically adapts to something.
0:42
I just, I just saw another example of it in the exercise world.
0:44
They took powerlifters and they gave some of them a peptide that improves their strength.
0:50
You could think of that as an anabolic steroid.
0:52
And then they gave a group of, of powerlifters a sugar pill and told them that it was a breakthrough peptide that worked way better than steroids to improve their strength.
1:03
And what was crazy is both groups grew significantly in their one rep max for the major lifts, uh, bench press, squat, clean and jerk, right? And so they, they were able to, to grow significantly in these major lifts and there was no difference.
2:11
Yeah
