As any good organizer will tell you, an organizing conversation should be maybe 30% speaking and 70% listening.

So we're going to treat it as an opportunity to speak to people a little bit, tell them a little bit how the energy system works, give them some background around why energy prices keep going up year after year.

Yeah, so Alex, could you just speak a little bit about why utility bills keep going up every year? And yeah, just like what is your sort of perspective on that?

You know, how is that effort to try to expand NYPA's commitment to build public power going to play out in the next session.
A
7:04Alex PattersonGUEST
yeah so i think um we are going to see an increasing amount of pressure uh certainly from the legislature but uh continued from the thousands and thousands of people who've uh participated in nipa's public comment process um and who sent you know emails to their legislators this session uh emails calls uh all of it went up to albany and and met with their legislators You know, to ask them to invest in these projects.
A
7:46Alex PattersonGUEST
And, you know, they have said on the record multiple times that the increasing in funding from Albany has led them to expand further.
A
7:54Alex PattersonGUEST
And we're hopeful that the $100 million we won this year can contribute to them expanding their plan even more.
A
8:05Alex PattersonGUEST
We know that this summer, they do plan to update and revise that plan, and that they've considered up to doubling what they currently have planned.

Mark DunleaCORRESPONDENT
But, you know, what might be some of their public power pushes they might try at the federal level?

A

But, you know, what is needed is certainly the 15 gigawatts that we've been calling for.
A
3:55Alex PattersonGUEST
And we're excited to potentially work with this new expanded socialist block in Albany to perhaps deliver a mandate for them to build that in the coming session.

Mark DunleaCORRESPONDENT
Do Congress, both of them, are public power champions? You know, Congress, unfortunately, doesn't get much done in the last few decades, but, you know, what might be some of their public power pushes they might try at the federal level?
A
8:02Alex PattersonGUEST
Yeah, so we are very excited that Daria-Liza and Claire are going to be headed to Washington.
