Can you talk to us more about those traits?
4:22
Happy to walk through all three of them.
4:24
But I think a place I might like to start here is with the words of poet Amanda Gorman.
4:28
So she wrote the poem, The Hill We Climb, which she delivered at the inauguration of Biden and Harris.
4:34
And the final three lines encapsulate the approach of having a changemaker mindset.
4:38
So the final three lines are, for there is always light if we're brave enough to see it, if we're brave enough to be it.
4:45
I think that's a really nice way to think about a changemaker mindset.

10 MINS LATER

15:10
What do they share with you about having experienced failure?
12:41
So I wonder, what are some key takeaways or some key nuggets that you think are crucial for people in this headspace?
12:49
One of my favorite things to teach is a concept that I call micro-leadership.
12:52
Because again, if we think about leadership, we tend to tell stories of leadership through these heroic, grandiose tales.
12:59
We talk about the Mandela's, the Gandhi's, the Eleanor Roosevelt's, people that have led change at a huge global scale.
13:06
And of course, there's a role for that type of leadership.
13:09
We need that.
13:10
But when we put leaders like those up on a pedestal, I think it causes many, if not most of us, to find reasons we're not like that.

5 MINS LATER

18:26
And yet we
11:56
... is holding onto things too tightly because I care so much because it's so values-driven.
12:01
And so I share this as someone who's not an expert in it and someone who actually struggles with this.
12:07
But what I've found to be helpful is to think about that larger goal, that larger mission again, and recognize we just can't do things on our own.
12:16
But then I guess to kind of bridge things, right, to sort of hold things lightly while letting things in is to think about like what are your non-negotiables? A framework that I use sometimes is being clear on your why, flexible on your how.
12:28
And so you as a leader, you might have a thing or two you say we will not compromise on.
12:32
We will not compromise on climate efficiency.

Imagine making a business decision.
0:02
Maybe it's hiring, maybe it's budgeting, maybe it's speaking up on a social issue.
0:06
Any one of those choices could spark a public backlash, put strain on your team, or even shake investor confidence.
0:11
That's the reality for leaders today.
0:13
Economic shocks, political uncertainty, polarization have created an environment where even routine decisions can carry real risk.

In today's climate, expertise can help you map a strategy.
