I think one of the most significant developments in the new NICE guideline is the recommendation for routine annual reviews for everyone diagnosed with PMOS.
6:22
This represents a shift away from seeing PMOS as something that only requires attention when symptoms become problematic.
6:29
The annual review is intended to provide a structured opportunity to assess how someone is doing across multiple aspects of their health.
6:38
That includes reviewing menstrual symptoms, concerns about excess hair growth or acne, fertility and pregnancy plans, medication use, weight management, mental well-being and symptoms that could suggest sleep apnoea.
6:52
Importantly, it also encourages clinicians to assess longer term health risks.
6:57
because people with PMOS have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease regular monitoring provides an opportunity to identify problems early and offer preventive support another key theme running through the guideline is the emphasis on coordinated person-centered care PMOS can affect many aspects of life so management may involve primary care endocrinology fertility services mental health support and lifestyle interventions.
