Alan L. Hart

Alan Hart was assigned female at birth, but from as far back as he could remember, he'd always known that he was a man.

When he envisioned his adult life, he saw himself as a man.

When he read romance novels, he pictured himself as the male lead.

... from the stress of this.

Oh, yeah.

Alan Hart had to have that fear, fear that the basic facts of his life, facts that he was not ashamed of, for the record, would be used against him.

And the thing about that fear that would've been so torturous is that Alan Hart had to have known the horror stories.

Yeah.

Alan Hart was a doctor, a radiologist, a researcher, a novelist.

He saved countless lives when he began using x-rays to screen for tuberculosis, at a time when that was not regularly done.

He was smart and creative, but also scarred and maybe a little scared.

In his will, Allen instructed his attorney to destroy the contents of those locked boxes.

And the attorney did as they were told.

And just like that, all of that stuff that said so much about Alan Hart's history and his legacy and his life was gone.

It was sad, but it kind of made sense.
