when a fire like this makes a significant run, What are firefighters evaluating in those first few hours? What factors determine kind of how you attack?

There are quite a few considerations in it, but one of them is what are the values at risk that we want to protect? One of our main objectives is protecting the lives of firefighters, the public, and critical resources and assets on the ground.

So are there utility lines? communities, other things of value.

But everybody in the organization looks at it a little bit differently.

So on the operations side, they're looking at fuels, terrain, wind, what resources they have, where they can best fire terminology.

You want to just anchor, flank, and then get ahead of the head.

So where can we anchor in and secure that so we can start working our way around it because you don't fight fire from the front.
