So tell us a little bit about the mission of that work, your holistic approach that I know is so important to you and the impact that you've seen from it.
7:38
Yeah, no, thank you.
7:39
So Springboard Opportunities is the organization that I had the amazing privilege of starting and leading for the last 13 years.
7:46
And Springboard works with families that live in federally subsidized affordable housing.
7:51
And we put programs and services in place that help them advance in life, school, and work.
7:55
And I want to take a beat back because when I say federally subsidized affordable housing, sometimes people are like, oh, I don't quite understand what that means.
8:02
And so I want to paint a picture of what the families are that I work with, what their realities are.

And I would ask you to take us back to a story from your journey.
25:20
The less you know sometimes, the better.
25:23
So let me say that I was holding a lot of naiveness because I really was.
25:28
I was much younger also at the time.
25:31
And I truly did believe that, OK, this thing has not been done.
25:35
It makes sense.
25:36
People just need money without restrictions, because even though we have mechanisms to get individuals money without restrictions in this country, that capital never actually goes to low income communities and communities in poverty.
25:48
We only will give them vouchers or subsidies or whatever.
30:37
order to get this done, this might be what it requires.

Mwah, chef kiss.

Now this list itself, it's incredible.
6:15
You've got the foundational stuff sitting right next to the new class.
6:18
Real then and now vibes.

My personal top picks from the pack, I gotta go with You and I, T-Y, Bodak Yellow, and Who's That Girl.

Mm.

Dr. Aisha Nyandoro joins me now.

So in the Making Joy Possible polling that we just did, where we went and we talked to Black women voters in Mississippi about the economy, about joy, about the dreams that they have for their lives, unfortunately, I was not surprised.
10:57
And the reason that I was not surprised is because I sit and live and breathe community every day.
11:04
And so I am in constant relationship with bre- with families, and I know that the economy is not working for them, which is what the polling showed, that 90% of individuals say the economy is not working, that 90% are dissatisfied with the country's direction, that 44% experience racism.
11:24
And so all of those pieces were not surprising, but the pieces that I walked away with is, okay, we actually now have the data.

12:54
Mm.
12:54
And we know affordability is going up.
12:57
The cost of everything is going up.
