Is it possible to limit God? And if so, how does that happen?
0:07
Oh, I absolutely was.
0:09
I was limiting God in my life, and I was limiting God by leading from a very narrow viewpoint.
0:19
See, you and I, we lead from the whole person.
0:24
We don't just lead from our gifts and our talents or our roles or our positions or even our technical competencies.
0:31
And for those of us that are in church leadership, nor do we lead only from the gifts of the Spirit.
0:39
We bring our whole selves to work.

6:33
What does that mean to you personally and practically? What does that mean enlarge your capacity?
1:58
It's, uh, you, y- you were blaming it on things external to you, yet you realized in that moment you were frustrated with yourself.
2:07
Yeah.
2:08
Yeah, I, I realized that what needed to change was not a what or a where, but it was a who, and the only person that really [chuckles] needed to change was me.
2:18
That's, that's what it was.
2:19
I realized that this frustration was that I had hit a wall as a leader, as a man, be- beyond roles, as a human, as a man.
2:28
I had hit a wall, and I was, I was wanting to do things and I was aspiring to do things, and I was aspiring to be someone that was outside of my current capacity.
2:39
And so the frustration that I was directing outwards, I needed to direct that and turn it into motivation inwardly so that I would change, and then that's when I realized the capacity was my responsibility.
4:02
Yeah
0:09
What does that mean to you personally and practically? What does that mean, enlarge your capacity?
0:16
So I think it starts with assessing, thinking of components of yourself like jars from the story, understanding that what I need to give God are more jars.
0:30
it's assessing in your life.
0:32
And like I mentioned earlier, if you aren't able to figure this out by yourself, speak to your spouse, speak to your kids, speak to your direct report, speak to your pastor and ask yourself or get them to help you.
0:46
What jars am I missing in my life? And then be humble enough to, to go and ask somebody who has that jar in their life, what do I need to do in order to have this component of your character, your life, or your leadership? What do I got to do in order to have that in mind? And so practically, for me, In my journey, I undertook something called – I called it spirit-led learning, and that is I looked at my – I Venn diagrammed my life, and it was the intersection of family and relationships and then all the different things I did as a leader.
1:36
And they all kind of – the intersection was me as a person in the middle, and I figured out – tried to figure out what parts of that Venn diagram were weak, what jars were not present.
1:51
And so practically – Here are some jars that a leader could see if it's missing in their life.
6:37
I'm hearing balance in your life where you were focused on internal and external

Will you tell me the story of what happened in 2011, I think it was, at Santa Maria de Jesus in Guatemala? What happened there? What's the story of that?
6:21
Yeah, I mean, that story goes back, honestly, to like 2005, man.
6:24
I know that I've talked to you about this as far as most people start their business on the retail front and they move backwards.
6:30
And sourcing is sort of the last thing they do as they look at profit margins and ways to...
6:36
Scale and make money, whatever.
6:38
But we started the opposite.
6:39
The first thing we did was know coffee farmers because of some friends that worked in USAID health work in that village.

But I've got to ask, how did you develop that thinking around sourcing and your values around that? I think
