Because the choral world was all about excellence.

It was all about the top 40 students in a select choir where the teacher over-rehearsed them, and they received opportunities to perform everywhere.

And I was thinking to myself, "Well, what about all the other kids in the program? What happens to them? Where do they go?" And I built a program where every student that comes in in ninth grade, they hopefully graduate 12th grade being in the sel- self-selected choir.

And I was watching my colleagues bragging on Facebook about how many kids they have ma- made all county or all state, and how blessed they all are with it, uh, which is, you know, a backhanded compliment.
