So Adam, following up on what Monica and Kathleen said, is it difficult in your organization to, on the one hand, get lots of volunteers to help individual homeless vets, but lose some of the support when you're actually trying to make sure there are no future homeless vets by changing underlying structures?
13:29
Yeah, I think Monica and Catherine have very accurately sort of diagnosed what's going on and what the issues are here.
13:36
And it definitely is a tension in those things, Dan, as you point out.
13:39
Maybe it might be helpful to sort of see how I see it playing out in the homelessness sector in particular, which is where we focus a lot of our work.
13:47
So, when I think about interventions around homelessness, there's sort of three layers or three different ways people can plug in.
13:53
The first way is to alleviate the suffering and the horror for people who are on the streets, right? So, we have lots of efforts to feed people who are out and don't have food, or give people a safe place to sleep tonight, or give them some emergency health care, right? So, intervene and sort of treat folks who are really suffering and struggling in really dire situations, and just alleviate that immediate horror that they're experiencing.
14:21
And that tends to get very widespread support.
