Um, what makes an adaptable boxer in your mind?
19:35
What makes an adaptable boxer? Okay.
19:38
Um, that's an interesting question there because it's a similar question to, you know, what is skill? Um, you know, I was asked what skill is and I've heard people answer this question and I don't really know which one, I don't really have this kind of thing that I could write down and say is this, but adaptability.
19:56
When you box, there's so much variability, I mean, a ridiculous amount of variability that can happen.
20:06
And some boxers are just able to handle that variability.
20:10
So orthodox, southpaws, speed, strength, you know, so they have all these physical components, which is a big part of boxing, right? The physical capacities of someone is a massive part of that.
20:21
and you have to have those physical capacities but i think what makes someone adaptable is their and without sounding too fluffy their perceptual skills their ability to to read and whether that's something that is how cognitive that is i don't know um but i do think people are able to just attune to the environments so and again i don't want to sound like i'm coming up with the lovely words you know right the cla words the ecod words right because who am i i'm a boxing coach but i truly believe from my experience as an ex-boxer as well i boxed for 12 seasons an amateur and i had 45 fights i was okay it wasn't brilliant i was okay right i knew from my experience that I could have been a hell of a lot better if I was put in environments where I had to read different opponents, solve different problems, but I had one or two sparring partners, both of who were lighter than me, so having to deal with the physical capacities wasn't a problem for me, and I got used to them.
