Adam, what do Luther's insights mean for Christians today grappling with the challenge of Islam?

So this is a pretty big task for one question, but give us a historical picture of Islam from Muhammad, seventh century, to the Ottoman Siege of Vienna.

Hmm.

Yeah.

That's a big ask for a short amount of time, but, um, I'll try to do it.

First, I, I would have to say when it comes to the life of Muhammad and the first hundred or so years of Islam, that whole history is being, you know, the historian would call it re-envisioned right now, and what I mean by that is there is a traditional narrative Muslims have told for centuries about what happened in the life of Muhammad and the, the decades following his death.

That whole narrative or story is based on evidence that comes from at least a century and a half, if not two centuries or more after Muhammad's death.

So it's not close enough to be, um, such that a historian would be very, really confident in its reliability, especially when you look at the Muslim literature, the Arabic literature, and compare it to some actual non-Muslim, that is mostly Christian eyewitnesses of the Arab expansion out of the Arabian Peninsula in the wake of Muhammad's death.
