in fact
12:03
the first thing we do as infants as babies is not talk it's laugh our mom or dad teases us like i have a one-year-old grandson and he's he's getting close to talking now but first video i saw of him was him crying and laughing, so it's very human.
12:22
And so the first thing you need to do as a leader, even if you're introverted, which I think is fantastic, some of the funniest comedians I've ever known or studied have been introverts, not extroverts.
12:33
In the U.S., of course, you have Robin Williams, introvert, actually.
12:39
Steve Martin, introvert.
12:41
And so it doesn't really matter whether you're introvert or extrovert.
12:45
Here's a phrase I like a lot, Christian.

8 MINS LATER

20:48
I was just wondering, like, you know, with your experience, the 30 years with the corporate rooms, is there a real risk for failure by using humor in the wrong way? And what would be your guardrails around that?
18:03
A
18:05
very insightful distinction, yes.
18:07
Yes.
18:09
I've seen leaders fail with humor because they have this idea that like, let's say there's a annual gathering and the leader's job is to kind of cast the vision and give a speech.
18:21
And I saw one CEO said, I'm going to knock him out, make him laugh.
18:24
I'm going to ride in on a Harley.
18:26
And so he rode in on a Harley and it was, it was fun.

6 MINS LATER

24:11
Well, Adam, what are some daily practices that our listeners can implement to help them identify their lap language and further develop it? So after they go to your website, take kind of your survey and discover it, if they're still feeling unsure, What are some things they can do to help further it?
3:24
[laughs]
3:24
And [laughs] two years later, I was assisting David Copperfield on, like, a TV special, and so it was, uh, such a, an amazing blessing for me.
3:33
But I've been leaning on laughter really my whole life.
3:37
When I was in eighth grade, I, I ran for student body president, and I decided, I'm just gonna make my campaign, my campaign talk a, a comedy set.
3:46
[laughs] And I didn't even know what a comedy set was.
3:48
It was just joke after joke about the teachers and pencil fights and whatever.
3:53
And my opponent said, "Do we really want a clown as our student body president?"

11 MINS LATER

15:08
Mm-hmm
3:12
I think that's interesting because I think there are plenty of smart, amiable people who would say, "I'm not funny." Can we just leave it at that? Or, or do you think-
3:21
I do believe that everyone has a sense of humor.
3:23
It's just that there are different types of humor.
3:25
It's sort of like if you were playing chess, you might enjoy using the queen as your attacking piece, or rook, but you have access to the bishop and the knight and the, what I call humor tactics.
3:38
I think the key really is not trying to be funny, but tapping into the connection and the style that's already yours.
3:46
So, years ago, there was a book that's actually still selling zillions of copies called The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman.
3:55
Just as there are love languages, I believe there are laugh languages, and I've identified five of them.
7:37
What's your advice on whether that is something that people need to strive for?
