Leaving LGTBQ Activism

So situational ethics, that's the idea that what is right is kind of determined by the circumstances.

Right.

Right.

Exactly.

So this totally switches that and says, no, what's right is determined by someone outside of you, outside of your feelings, outside of your circumstances.

So did that have, like, was that more disarming or was that more offensive?

Oh.

Well, no, no, it actually was fascinating because I then said to him, well, that is an incomplete heuristic.

He said, well, why? What's incomplete about my heuristic? I said, well, because you're presuming that the Bible is true.

He said, oh, yes, I am.

I said, well, how in the world can you defend that presupposition?

He said, why would I have to defend that presupposition?

I said, well, because I'm saying so.

He said, well, you're not God.

And I said, well, that's true.

I said, so how would someone who doesn't already share your presupposition enter into your heuristic? And then he handed me a Bible.

And he said, oh, that's the other thing I wanted you to know.

I'm not here for a free-for-all.

I mean, I'm happy to talk to you.

But if you really want to know why Christians believe what they believe, this is the

book we read together.

And I was delighted.

I want you to know.

So this was weird.

I mean, you might think that... how I did well you know I could be like the chairwoman of over readers anonymous okay you hand me a book I'm like oh you know my you that's my love language you know so so I was I was really fascinated that because I had really thought that Christians I didn't know Christians actually read the Bible I thought they did this where they just kind of rifle through it and they kind of put their finger on it and they like here's my verse for the day and I always thought, well, no wonder why they're not good thinkers.
