In this episode, Jaz and the YMYB producer, Oli, sit down and talk about how their experience was at BIGSOUND 2026. They recap industry talks, panels and artist showcases, as well as the personal…
Well, in regards to taking us back, what was your favorite panel for Big Sound?
Favorite panel, it would be the, yeah, I'm not sure who hosted it, but it was basically being creative as an emerging artist, especially online as well.
And like things you can do, ideas and just, yeah, being authentic and not just being a music creator, but also like other interests and how you can implement that in your online like following.
Yeah.
How are they talking about authenticity? Because I know a lot of artists really struggle when music industry professionals or people are just like, oh, yeah, just like be authentic.
It's like, yeah, but how?
Yeah.
Like, did they give any actually like good explanations as to what they were recommending?
yeah they were saying like if you you're into crafts like music surely can't be the only thing that you like doing and even if it is you can just be authentic about you creating your music and the story behind the music that you make and being open and honest not just being like oh this is my music go check it out but being kind of more human about it and behind you behind the music the artist behind the music not so much just the the music itself yeah and yeah if you have any other special interests like crafts like writing or anything just like showcase that as well yeah and how that can impact um your music and give fans more of a idea of who you are as a person yeah and why you make music and the process behind it as well
Yeah, absolutely.
I definitely found recently it's been either two types of music accounts that thrive realistically.
It's either that, you know, showing the authenticity, showing who you are as an artist outside of music as well as in the music.
But then the sort of secondary one is it's like, really works for those artists that have decided to make like a whole world or like this you know huge narrative around their music project because that's what keeps fans interested and keeps them like you know engaged otherwise people I've really found that artists that aren't doing either one of those are sort of struggling a little bit to like find their audience and find their people because there's not enough like tangible content for the fan to want to jump in on and And
people want to see real things online.
Exactly.
Yeah.
You can tell if something's fake immediately if you're scrolling.
Yeah.
Like you can just go, oh, that's fake.
Doesn't really concern me.
But if you see something real, you can relate to it and you want to, you feel more invested in that person.
Yeah, exactly.
For you, what was the piece of authenticity that you were like, I've got to start doing more of that? Or showcase it?
I think it's more music making process for me.
Yeah.
