The first parallel is that we can't control the conditions, but we can work with them.

The first thing I thought was about the weather because I had absolutely no control over it.

We can't control whether they decide that today is the day they absolutely refuse to wear the shoes they happily wore yesterday.

We can't control whether our toddler has a meltdown in the middle of the supermarket.

And I think some of my hardest parenting moments have happened when I've had a really clear idea in my head about how something should be going.

And I can feel myself getting more and more frustrated because what is actually happening is completely different to the picture I had in my mind.

I can pause and ask myself, what's actually happening here? What am I needing? What might my child be needing? Is there another way we can approach this? That doesn't mean I suddenly don't care about getting out of the door on time.

Sometimes we really do need to leave, but I can work with what is actually happening rather than getting completely caught up in how I think things should be happening.
