Can you explain about mom parts and how that all works, because there's a lot of the negative stuff included in that too, isn't there?
In chapter five, I, I go through every one of the 29 mom parts to give them a little bit more definition and really to highlight the paradoxical nature of them.
It's what's given me a lot of confidence and curiosity to move closer to aspects of myself and my clients that would otherwise be, you know, diagnosable, unlikable, um-
It's got a philosophy that all parts are welcome, that all parts of us show up to try to help in some way.
They show up because there's a sense of threat or of not being safe, and even if that threat and that feeling of not being safe are inaccurate, your parts are coming to try-
And so if we can bring some curiosity and interest to those parts and start to sort of develop a relationship with them, befriend them, is the way we talk about it in IFS-
... we actually make incredible progress with helping them relax and soften.
They're not the only parts that moms have, but they're the ones that are, I think, most common and recognizable.
So I just decided to call them out, give them a name, and see if by providing a sort of menu of parts that I could help moms feel understood and seen and kind of normalize these-
these feelings, these collections of feelings and reactions that are, are really typical for moms.
