Contemplative Practice
Here's what I want you to do.
Take a few pictures of what you find to be beautiful.
It could be anything, something from nature, a person, someone you know or a stranger, an object made by human hands, an abstract scene that somehow speaks to you.
That it speaks to you and touches the beautiful space inside you is all that matters.
Do keep this to just a few pictures.
We have the sometimes unfortunate capacity with modern technology to try and capture everything, and in doing so we end up capturing nothing.
That's more recording.
I want you to be more discerning.
Just three pictures, or five, just not more than ten.
And don't push.
Don't look for them.
Don't make it work.
Make your work attentiveness, and the images will call to you.
And when they call, then capture them.
Once you've taken your pictures, be with the images.
Really pour over them.
You might linger on what drew you to them originally, or you might find something else in there that speaks to you.
Maybe that reached you before you were aware of it.
Notice what touches you, and what part of you it touches.
What it evokes, calls forth from you.
Notice the invitation God might be extending to your life through this image and the fact that it called to you.
Notice the invitation that your soul already knows.
And allow these questions to arise within you, and just be with them.
Just be with them.
Take as long as you need.
