Reordering Our Desires1:45 – 5:05

1:45

Let's start out, first of all, with sharing something that I really feel like God put on my heart, um, to share.

1:53

I c- I wanna give credit.

1:55

I believe it was the Dwell daily devotional that mentioned this.

2:03

I cannot remember, and I would love to point back to where I heard this from, but I, I can't remember.

2:07

So, um, here it is, Psalm 37:4.

2:13

"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." You have heard this verse before.

2:20

I'm not looking to give credit to anyone for that verse.

2:22

That verse is in the Bible, but w- what I'm looking to give credit for is this thought that was introduced to me that I cannot stop thinking about in regards to this verse.

2:30

So I have always heard this verse, love this verse, right? God is gonna give you your desires if you delight yourself in Him, and recently someone said that what if He's not actually giving you the thing you desire, but what if He's actually giving you the desires themselves? Like, what if the more that you delight yourself in Him, He's not gonna give you that thing that you've always wanted.

3:02

Instead, He's actually going to, like, rewire the desires of your heart to long for the right things.

3:10

And friend, let me just say, I have had some things that I have really wanted in my life, and this summer I have felt like the door closed on those things, and that has been hard.

3:27

Um, and I just [laughs] right out of the gate wanna share this on my podcast episode just to say, like, life is not, it's not easy for any of us, right? Like, there are closed doors, there are losses, there are griefs, there are hardships that we all face, um, but that explanation of this Bible verse helped me reorient my heart and my mind to the Lord saying, "Yes, God," like, "Yes, would you please put the right desires in there?" Like, put...

3:59

Like, "I delight myself in you, Lord.

4:02

Please give me the desires of my heart." I hope that makes sense.

4:08

Like, "Please give me new desires or different desires or the right desires, like, desires from you.

4:13

That is what I want in my heart, um, your desires.

4:18

I want to live in sync with you." So I hope that encourages you wherever you are.

4:24

Maybe you are in a time of, of waiting or a closed door or walking through something hard, and I just wanna say [laughs] God is so g- good and gracious, um, to not always give us the thing that we want or in a season of waiting and, and wrestling with Him to realize that He can, He can even change the desires of our hearts and He can...

4:48

A- and all we need to do is just keep our eyes on Him.

4:50

Delight yourself in the mystery of the Lord and, and He will fulfill them.

4:56

He will fulfill them.

4:57

Okay, that's the first thing I wanted to share.

4:59

I thought it was so neat and has really helped me look at and hear that verse in a different and new way.
