Federal's new high-pressure 6.5 Creedmoor Peak ammunition is generating a lot of excitement—but is your rifle actually built for it? In this episode, Jamie Dodson discusses the engineering, safety…
I am only speaking from the – let's just say – the corner of the room speaking on concerns and things to think about with all the hype that's happening over this cartridge, as well as some information that I had been reaching out to for about the past week and some barrel makers.
I suspect it'll be taking the rifle world by storm here very shortly, and you're going to see it coming out for all different makes and models and calibers and...
Anytime that we see speed, it's whatever it is with shooting and guys, as soon as you talk about speed, it is always the winner.
When you look at all the calibers that have been released over the years, and you look at the battle that happened between the 7 SOM and the 7 WSM, Although I personally thought that the short action Ultramag was absolutely the better case design, probably held more potential accuracy.
There's all these things that I had a personal belief in that was the better cartridge of the two.
Point blank, the Winchester short mag dominated just because of the published velocities that you see.
And so for whatever reason, everybody in the industry knows that this is the draw.
Anytime you increase velocity, you flatten trajectory, you put more energy on target, and all those equal the shooters looking at it saying, well, If I have a bad shot there, I got all this extra guarantee or warranty or some safety built into the shot that if it's a bad shot, I've got all this extra energy and speed and stuff to do more damage to the animal.
Or in match shooting, I can actually beat out the competitor, not because I cannot shoot them, but because maybe the wind won't push me as much.
You have to sit in your own camp and think about what you would like to do with that.
But I have been getting on average at least one phone call a week on the Pluspeak Gammo, my thoughts, what do I think? And doing a lot of research, of course, you go to the internet and right away, the influencers.
