Gilmour Academy at Huron - 09 26 2026

You're listening to High School Volleyball brought to you by Stein Olsen and Stang on Your Country K96.

Good afternoon and welcome inside Huron High School.

I am Josh Bowman joined by Caden Meese here today for a special presentation of High School Volleyball on K96 as we bring you the Huron Lady Tigers.

The Tigers taking on the Lancers of Gilmore Academy.

Glad you could join us here this afternoon.

We should have a lot of fun here today as the The JV and freshman matches moved along pretty fast, didn't they, Caden?

Yeah, they did, but they were some good ones as that JV game that we caught at the end of.

Those two set scores were very close, so anything to give us a preview for the varsity?

That's right, as we're getting ready for a big-time varsity matchup, and you look at this matchup here, Huron is on what I call and what Coach Wood calls their academy tours as they take on some of these private schools, and like this one here in Gilmore Academy, they also took on toledo notre dame academy a couple weeks ago in that notre dame academy match they were down 2-0 two sets to none and came back here on did and rallied for three straight sets and won that match that was a pretty crazy one there

yeah i bet it was and that's the importance of getting the experience of playing these bigger schools before tournament time rolls around so you're not caught off guard when that time happens

yeah and of course coach would uh 705 career wins.

His record overall is 705 and 171.

And just picked up his 700th win this season.

So he's forgot more about volleyball than I'll ever know.

Let's just say that.

Talked to Coach Wood this morning on the locker room show.

And he says, you know, playing teams like Gilmore Academy, they play a different kind of offense, different kind of style of play.

He says nothing against the teams in the Northern Ohio Conference where they play like they have Port Clinton coming up, your Edisons, your teams like that, your Norwalks, your Bellevues.

But he said it's just a different style, and that helps them.

Once they get into the tournament and they make a nice little run, they may run into some teams like this.

Oh, yeah, experience is key, and that is why playing these teams is such beneficial experience.

towards the huron volleyball program like as i saw they host perrysburg that's a big d1 there so that'll be big come later in the year

here on coming off a win at vermilion thursday night 3-1 and that was a 25-10 uh 2025 they lost the second set then came back and won 25-19 and 25-12 in the fourth set that's the first time here on drop the setting conference play this season

yeah and Listen, it's going to happen at some point, so it was good to see how Huron answered back and won the last two sets to just take care of business and move on to today.

Maya Smith at 12 kills, five blocks.
