A couple years after my husband, Kevin, and I got married, I started talking with him about starting a family.
He told me we weren't financially prepared, the timing wasn't right, and his list of reasons went on and on of why he didn't think we should start a family at that time.
But we had friends who had struggled for years to get pregnant, and before long, my mind started becoming flooded with the fear that that would be our story, too.
Eventually, I voiced my concern to Kevin and asked, "What if we have trouble having kids?" He just shrugged it off and said, "That won't be us." But eventually, that did become us.
And while I would love to tell you I never once said the words, "I told you so," I definitely did.
Because years earlier, I had voiced my concerns to Kevin, and now here we were.
At the same time, though, I was internally kicking myself for even speaking those fears out loud in the first place, because I knew what scripture says about the power of words, and fear has a way of making your mind spiral into places it shouldn't go.
My OBGYN began trying different things, but eventually she referred us to an infertility specialist.
The whole process felt so clinical and not at all how we had imagined starting a family would be like.
But by this point, I was so obsessed with having a child that I had resolved myself to the idea that if this was our only hope, then so be it.
