On his intake form, he wrote one word: **skeptical**. By the last night of his retreat, he said something completely different. In this bonus student spotlight episode, Emily Fletcher sits down with…
Emily FletcherHostDannyGuestthink in general, I can just feel more pleasure in everything in life.
You know, daily tasks, You know, even spending time with my son now is just much more pleasurable.

And that's the game when I, you know, I think I used to be a little averse to the word pleasure because it made me feel like you're like going like saying I'm an adult toy shop or something.

Like I just, it felt, I don't know, somehow even the word pleasure felt dirty to me.

And I really reclaimed that word of like, no, I can have pleasure in a cup of tea.

I can have pleasure walking in the woods that, that how can we infuse more joy, more presence, more bliss, more, more awe, more respect of the unseen world, even in the mundane day-to-day moments.
Yeah, and I think kind of like the analogy is if anyone ever does any plant medicine, the way that you kind of feel, you can kind of get that sense sober.

I mean, I'm a big fan of plant medicine if they're done, you know, in beautiful containers with guidance, but, um, But I also want people to know that that same level of magic, that same level of medicine is available with our own endogenous pharmacy.

So it's like, yeah, that feeling when you're on mushrooms or that feeling when you're on MDMA, the only reason that the external substances can do that to our biology is that our brain has the receptors.

So why would the brain have the receptors if the body didn't have the ability to make that organically? Like, for example, if you inject a lizard's brain with LSD, apparently it doesn't trip because it doesn't have those receptors.

And so I just think it's interesting to be like, oh, well, if we have these receptors, then the body must be able to produce it organically.

And that's what I love about this is that you can achieve these higher states of consciousness.

You can really alter your perception and relationship with reality with your breath, with your pleasure, by tuning into a future version of you and doing all of that sober.
I believe so.
