Kait BoyleGuestRebecca RuschHostall right everyone welcome to what's the rush podcast with me rebecca rush i am your teammate on this adventure and this is a place where we explore the transformative insights that are discovered behind the scenes and i have the privilege of being in conversation with some of the most amazing athletes and scientists and entrepreneurs and high achievers But we don't really focus on the view from the summit or all the amazing things they've done.
Instead, we talk about the valleys between the peaks, the darkness before the dawn, and the unexpected stop signs that sometimes interrupt our flow.
And I like to do this because it really helps to learn about the discoveries that unfold when we stop rushing for a moment and we pay attention to a different tune, either by choice or by force.
So today's guest, Kate Boyle, she's a great friend and a world champion ultra-endurance mountain biker, breaking course records on some of the hardest self-supported ultra-endurance bike races in the world.
Kate is an explorer and an advocate and an educator, and she is most at home outdoors with a helmet on her head.
She uses big outdoor adventures to test herself, but also to empower other people.
And she's a massive advocate for everyone to go adventuring and exploring by bike.
And She inspires me and so many other people with her rides, but also her advocacy, her work on the trails, her protection for public lands, the environment, her educational stuff.
And she also, I just learned, has formal education in wilderness leadership and environmental education.
So it really makes sense that her trajectory is kind of gone this way as if it had all been preplanned.
But also another really big part is about losing that and getting it taken away from her.
So we're definitely going to dive into a life-threatening injury that Kate had just a couple months after winning 24-Hour Mountain Bike Worlds in 2018.
A car accident left her with... a shattered pelvis, and she went from world champ podium to a wheelchair in the span of a couple months.
And she's been rebuilding from there for about eight years now, piece by piece.
setting records again, attempting big goals, achieving some of them, coming short on some of them.
And so, Kate, I really wanted to talk to you about this really amazing journey that you've been on.
