And we also know through research on role ambiguity that has always shown that not knowing what's expected of you, where your boundaries should be, and where your consequences are can be associated with psychological strain.

And in fact, a huge meta-analysis that was done in 2026 covering more than half a million people found that role ambiguity was was particularly damaging amongst workplace stressors.

You have one side saying, we want you to use AI, we want you to experiment.

But at the same time, employees are also hearing a different message like, be careful.

So it's confusing people, right? And the issues come when employees don't understand where the line actually is.

So instead of concentrating on their work, Part of the attention is now monitoring risk.

So risk like, you know, should I have used this? Have I crossed a boundary? Should I tell anyone?
Yeah.
So you've almost got, you know, you're taking something that's supposed to make your life a bit easier, but you're taking on that additional psychological strain potentially.
