The Trillion-Dollar Trap Forcing OpenAI to Wait

Well, this is like a sort of Anthropic heavy week.

There was a lot going on with Anthropic, but let's start with the big news, of course, which is that the Fable model, the Mythos class model has been re-enabled for people in the US at least.

And so you now have the ability to get back in and use Fable.

I've gotten in.

It's impressive.

They've told me I only have free access until the 7th, which is like Not that long, especially with the holiday weekend in there.

So I got to figure out how much time I'm taking away from the family to play with Fable.

But it's back after, you know, Anthropic made some modifications to its guardrails to meet, you know, kind of the requirements of the government state to put in front of them.

All right.

So this was an impressively fast launch, shut off and relaunch just a couple of weeks, right? So a couple of weeks it was shut off.

What kind of deal did they strike with the government that allowed it to get in your hands and everybody else's hands?

It's not clear.

I mean, there's clearly some changes to the safeguards and some modifications they made.

But I think one of the most disturbing things is it's not clear what the line was that they crossed to cause it to be blocked.

And it's not clear what line they crossed back over that allowed it to be unblocked.

And, of course, we talked about this previously, but this right after the government had come out and said, well, there's no pre-approvals, no licensing.

We're not – just let us know.

And then, of course, they told OpenAI not to launch the 5.6.

They blocked this one.

And, of course, also interestingly, this is the Commerce Department's export controls prohibiting usage of this model by foreign citizens and therefore, you know – It is not a lifting of the supply chain risk designation by the Department of Defense.

So still not better.

I hear actually, let me tell you what changed is they stopped letting Dario talk to the White House and they sent one of the other co-founders.

And apparently Dario and the administration do not see eye to eye on things.

And so they just needed a new, you know, better relationship, a new person to kind of carry the torch.

I mean, I could have told you that Dario and the White House do not see eye to eye on a lot of things because I've been on social media.
