09-22-26: Interview with Brandon Steiger: East Sac Volleyball

I know it was a tough night last night, a couple of non-conference matchups.

You guys have been in this triangular now for a few years with Ikea Manning and Coon Abbots Baird.

I really enjoy it, three area schools, but was a little surprised last night to see you guys come out of there 0-2 and struggle a little bit.

You and I were just talking.

It just kind of seemed like one of those nights.

Yeah, it was one of those nights, you know, I mean, not making any excuses, but we didn't really have a lot of time to prep for it.

You know, it's one of those Monday games after homecoming, and we didn't have practice on Friday or over the weekend, so kind of came into it not knowing a whole lot about them.

Well, I did, but, you know, we only did, I only prepped the team a little bit on the bus on the way over as far as, you know, scout.

But, yeah, it was just, you know, one of those off games for us, I feel, and I thought we had Coon in that first game, but then come away with a win.

Were you surprised at how well Coon served early in the game?

You know, I could kind of tell by their stats that they're a very good serving team and they're very aggressive, especially watching them on game film, how they all jump serve.

But I was a little surprised that we didn't really handle their top spin as well as I thought.

So that kind of threw us off right there in the first game and kind of got us on our heels and But we were able to adjust and came back in the second game and played a lot better.

Yeah, what did you feel like you guys improved on and what did you do better there in set two?

Well, we definitely took a deep breath and just kept telling them to hold their platforms.

And if we can get some good passes, we'll get some good kills.

So I was really pleased with all the other aspects of the game.

I mean, we hit really well.

We didn't have a lot of errors.

You know, we served, you know, I think 94%, 5%, or 6% on the night.

So I was really pleased with every other aspect of the game.

But serve-receive is usually something we, you know, take pride on and we work really hard on.

And I was just a little surprised, that's all.

Coach, do you feel like, you know, dropping that third set to fall to Coon affected your guys' match with I.K. Manning last night?

I want to say that we've been working on our mental toughness, but it absolutely showed up in that second game.
