I started surfing in 1971 when no one was out there but teenage boys.

But the surfers like their girls in their place, which is on the beach.

Well, I started surfing at Bondi Beach and it was so fucking crowded.

Typical of Sydney's long line of beaches is Bondi.

And in the season, you can hardly see the sea or the water babies, playing Bob's Your Uncle in the surf.

We didn't have the faintest idea what we were doing, but we knew we ripped.

He drives

to the bottom.

He's only a little guy, but he generates a lot of power in his surfing.

Very aggressive sort of style here.

I never really wanted to rip, but I knew girls could

surf.

We didn't think girls couldn't surf.

We just didn't know if they could.

You see a girl out in the surf and it looks ridiculous.

I remember watching Blue Crush and thinking, why do they have to fall in love?
