WBUR senior reporter Gin Dumcius joins Morning Edition to explain why Oliver will still appear on ballots in November.
What do police say happened on Saturday night, Ginn?

They say Oliver hit five parked cars, and he was arrested for drunken, uh, driving.

He spent, uh, some time in jail, and then the New Bedford Light reported that he walked out in a, in a T-shirt and, uh, with no ride.
And if people don't remember, it was very cold [laughs] on Saturday night.
Who is Sean Oliver?

He was actually tapped to be the lieutenant governor b- by Brian Shortsleeve, who lost the primary for governor.

So what ended up happening was a shotgun marriage between Sean Oliver and Mike Minogue, who's the Republican nominee for governor, and they haven't really campaigned all that much together.
Because Oliver was somebody else's running mate, basically.

So he, he's had this rise from essentially New Bedford city councilor to candidate for lieutenant governor.

Uh, this is roughly two weeks out from election day, and there's little room for error, especially if you're running for a, as a, as a Republican in Massachusetts.
So what did he say?

Essentially, Minogue is telling Oliver, "You know, you're off the ticket.
So what happens to this lieutenant governor's race now? I mean, we're two weeks away.
Early voting has started.
