President Emily Belle Freeman | “Best and Worst Days”

I was so tickled and excited when you sent in the invitation and then told me what talk we would be able to talk about because Sister Freeman, as always, just has such a powerful... powerful way to share truth in a way that you immediately you immediately go to where she is in in scripture in in thought in doctrine and i know sitting around the dinner table after conference and you know what were your takeaways what do you remember what were your favorite parts um this talk just rose to the top of every conversation and i just loved it so much i love her

So, Julian, I can't agree more.

I mean, I remember when she was giving this talk and...

I honestly, I missed what she had said at the beginning.

And I say that because this is, I'm just going to read this very beginning in these paragraphs.

She says this, several weeks ago, we had been planning our daughter's wedding, which I was so excited and I knew about that.

And you know, yeah, she's getting, whatever.

With great joy, we dreamed and brainstormed as we considered all the options.

And then my husband, Greg, received a phone call he couldn't ignore.

It was the oncologist confirming that we had hoped wasn't true.

Greg's cancer had returned.

Isn't it amazing how you can go from best day to worst day in a matter of minutes? This is mortality, a proving ground, a place designed for growth.

I have learned that God allows mortality to do its work in us, and that includes both best days and worst days.

How do we get through those days? The story of Peter teaches us the strength comes as we walk with Christ and hold fast to his eternal truth.

Now, you'd think that I, as a friend, would be like, oh my goodness, I can't believe this.

For some reason, when she said this, I thought that she was speaking of the cancer that Greg already had.

And I didn't catch that they had received this phone call that it had come back.

Until Dustin, my husband, says to me, we need to be praying for Emily.

We didn't know that the cancer came back.

And I said, no, no, no, she didn't say the cancer came back.

She's just talking about the cancer that they've been dealing with for years.

And I was just saying, no, no, he's had this cancer for a long time.

And then he said, no, Barb, the cancer has come back.

And so we stopped the talk and started at the beginning again.

And then I listened to her say it again.
