For the last four months, Sony has burned every bit of goodwill they have earned in the last decade. Why? Dunno. How? Take a listen. Ads Aspire Drinks: aspiredrinks.com/discount/RHAZE Promo code…
We talked in a previous episode about how Sony announced that they, in 2028, as of I think it was January or February 2028, they want to just stop making physical media.
They're just going to stop supporting Blu-ray discs.
Even though that's their technology, they own the licensing rights to that technology.
They make money every single time someone prints a Blu-ray disc.
And of course, Microsoft jumped on the bandwagon like a day later, say, oh, yeah, yes, we are also going to stop doing physical media.
Yes, indeed.
And it's like, OK, that's pretty pathetic.
But we don't need to get deep into who's bad or who's good.
What multibillion dollar corporation you like.
We absolutely don't need to do that.
This has been a giant backlash, has been causing a giant backlash for Sony for the last, ever since they made that announcement.
Like pretty much the moment they made that announcement, there's been a lot of customers of theirs turning heel.
shook their head and said yeah that's a good idea going forward even though a lot of people do buy digital games i still buy digital games typically for indie developers but i still buy digital games from time to time no one likes the thought of yes we don't actually want you to own any physical media uh going into the future nobody likes that thought for a variety of reasons here if you're watching the youtube version of this you can click the card in the top and you can watch the video explaining why that's a bad thing going forward though uh sony was taken to court as of january 2025 in the cal uh california district court They were arguing as the defendant saying that, and I quote, nobody, no reasonable player believes that once they buy a digital game that they own the rights to that digital game.
This court case was about how Sony was misleading players into believing that they own digital games.
and then Sony just wants the right to remove those digital games off of your hard drive at any given point whenever they feel, so you don't actually own that game.
Now, I'm not saying that recently they lost that court case, but I will say a couple days ago, this episode's being recorded September 17th, 2026, a couple days ago, Sony did announce that they were going to settle out of court Going forward, they're going to say, we are pleading no wrongdoing, and they're settling for about $8 million that will be distributed to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 customers.
If you bought a game since December of 2019, I do believe, eventually you're going to find some piece of this class action lawsuit funds in your account in some way, shape, or form.
They're hammering out the details.
The details are supposed to be hammered out by the end of October.
