The Unscripted Gang noclips into the poorly understood aesthetics of the Great Recess- I mean The Backrooms! We talk about The Backrooms (the concept) before diving into our thoughts on The Backrooms…
Yeah, so we are talking about the back rooms.
Yeah.
We're talking about the movie.
We're also talking about the general concept.
Because Ray and I usually like to do our Halloween SCP story swap semi-annual tradition.
And I was just kicking around the idea that we've never really done a backroom's deep dive.
And of the SCP adjacent stuff, it is for reasons that will become explained, right? It's definitely one that has...
gained weirdly i guess a lot of people connect with um so uh we thought it'd make sense to talk dedicate our episode our halloween-ish episode this year to that and also talk about the movie because there's a movie Uh, and that's how we get, that's how we got here.
Yeah.
Uh,
I think, I think for, you know, real quick, some context too, of like, I think, you know, for me specifically, I just saw the call for watching the movie and watched it without any background on the film, except having seen parts of the trailer in the world, uh, Then afterwards realizing like there's this whole extended like universe that this came from a la Slenderman where like the internet had these stories for a long time that then came to, you know, be in the popular zeitgeist.
So like I came into this pretty, pretty raw and pretty uninformed on anything.
And I'm still like dipping my toes into.
I came
into this pretty raw and uncut.
Exactly.
And I just pounded right into it.
Yeah.
Okay.
Good.
Great.
As one should.
Yeah, so...
The way this whole shebang starts is one day on a website called 4chan, somebody says, hey, post disquieting images that feel off.
And then someone posts a picture, like a random picture of... uh a what i believe is a uh like a furniture store being remodeled uh with a quotation attached to it if you're not careful and you know clip we'll come back to that out of reality in the wrong areas you'll end up in the capital b back rooms where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet the madness of mono yellow the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum buzz and approximately 600 million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in.
