If you ended up on a ventilator tomorrow, would your family know what you want? Connie, a social worker with about 20 years in healthcare, including home health and hospice, says that conversation…
Lindsay PolisHostSo that, over the course of the time that I've been doing healthcare, has always been something that should always be talked about, not just because you're getting old.
I think every age, once you hit 18, you gotta tell people your wishes.
I'm not lying.
I mean, you have come into a world where people have car accidents.
There's younger adults involved in those accidents.
What are their wishes? They're now, they're now hooked up to machines, you know, what are their wishes? And that's why I say, and I taught my kids, well, they're all adults now, but I've always taught them to talk about death and dying, and what are your healthcare wishes.
That's really important because my culture back in the day, we didn't talk about, you know, death and dying.
That's a taboo.
There's many cultures that I've run into where they don't talk about directives or end of life, and I'm very passionate about that now because we get caught up in, you know, a lot of things where we don't find that that's important to talk about, because we're gonna bring that, you know, to fruition, and that's not necessarily true.
I mean, you believe what you believe, but to be honest, we're aging every day of our life.
I mean, that's what we know.
We're not here forever, and we have to at least have something in place, and that's why I get-
... advanced healthcare directive.
Yeah.
It's important

Yeah, I totally get, I get it, and it, it ca- I get it because of a bad situation what happened in my life.

Um, my father, um, was in a bad accident where it killed him, um, and, uh, the accident left him in a coma, um, being intubated.

And my father was such an active man, um, 82 years old, would've lived to a lot longer because his grandma lived to 110.
Yeah
