Miracles, murder charges, strange rumours and a man who says he is beyond death.
Their mother, Lucy Osigwe, had gone missing for years, and depending on which relative you asked, nobody seemed to have a straight answer about where she was.
Then somebody went into her son Chimezie's house and found her inside a cupboard.
She had been dead for about 10 years, and her body had been embalmed.
Now, the, the story of exactly how she was discovered is disputed heavily.
One account says that a relative stumbled across the body.
Another account says that members of her family went looking because they were suspicious.
Chimezie's own brother later said that the police found it while searching the house for a completely different reason.
But once the body was found, the police became involved, of course, and the story exploded because Chimezie Osigwe was not just some random man.
He was a devotee of Guru Maharaji, and immediately people heard that, they started talking about rituals.
The interesting part is that Maharaji was never shown to have instructed him to keep his mother's body.
In fact, Chimezie's family gave their own explanation for why the body had been preserved.
They said that their mother had wanted her eldest son, who lived abroad, to see her body before she was buried.
Then Chimezie gave another explanation.
He said he kept his mother's body be- because he believed an oil company had caused the accident that killed her, and he wanted to preserve her body as evidence for a case against the company.
And Chimezie himself was later acquitted of murdering his mother.
But this story is not really about Chimezie.
It's about the man whose name immediately made people pay attention to Chimezie's story, Guru Maharaji.
