Welcome to the first episode of Travillian Next: Investment Banking Edition! Hosted by Dave Yancoskie, Managing Partner & Head of Investment Banking Search at Travillian, with guest John Butler…
Off of that introduction, I want to run through a few stats here for your team.
S&P has Piper Sandler as the number one U.S. insurance M&A advisor since 2012 in terms of number of deals with 143.
And since 2019, the year Piper Jaffray bought Sandler O'Neill, your team has completed 90 M&A deals.
Your group has almost 40 dedicated bankers, more than $33 billion of aggregate M&A value, and more than $65 billion of equity and debt capital raise.
18 M&A deals totaling $9 billion in deal value, plus 13 capital raises totaling $3.9 billion.
So if you had to pick one thing that has been the key to your team's sustained growth and success over these years, what would it be?
Well, it's hard to come down to one thing, but I think it's really putting the client first.
From the beginning, we dedicated ourselves to the notion that, you know, other banking firms were interested in all sorts of ancillary topics.
And over time, if you focus hard on the clients and not all the noise and internal things at investment banking firms, et cetera, but really focus on what the client wants to achieve, it's differentiated and it's proven to be a winner for us.
Client-focused, sticking to your fundamentals, and that is the secret to long-term success.
What is your outlook for the market as it relates to your business for the rest of this year and for 2027?
26 has been a good year, probably a little less robust than most folks thought going into it, but it's going to be a busy fall into Q4 for sure, particularly on M&A.
I think the issue will be trying to get all the deals done that are coming to market over the next six months.
