Hantavirus, Travel Advisor Pain Points and More

... and we are gonna be discussing the travel advisor pain points of today's industry with everything going on in the world, uh, and some tips for all you travel advisors a little bit later on in the show because, as we do for every episode, in case this is your first time listening to the podcast here, we're gonna dive first into what has been trending in the world of travel in the last week or so.

And we begin first with the Hanta virus, Hanta virus, whatever you wanna call it.

It's a terrible virus that none of us wanna have to be associated or deal with right now, but it's everywhere, um, wherever you get your news, whether you're p- turning on your phone or your TV or your, if you're still reading the paper, um, shout out to you if you are.

Newspapers, yeah.

Um, but it's everywhere, right?

[laughs]

Uh, unfortunately, three people died onboard the Ocean Wide expedition ship, and many more are infected, um, have, have following, uh, including a doctor who cared for him, also a flight attendant, uh, and even one American.

And the Americans now have since-

Mm

... uh, that were onboard that ship, they have now since, um, arrived to America, and they are quarantined in Nebraska.

One was f- um, infected.

The CDC has responded as well, classifying the outbreak as a level three emergency response as the ship prepares to, um, as they evacuated passengers out of the Canary Islands this past weekend.

And the CDC said, quote, "The US government is actively monitoring and responding to the outbreak linked to the, the MV Hanta cruise ship.

At this time, the risk to the American public remains extremely low.

CDC developed health guidance for impacted American passengers, which was delivered to the US Department of State.

CDC's premier infectious disease experts are continuing to work closely with international partners to develop consistent monitoring guidance.

This guidance will be distributed and in addition to resources targeted for the state and local health departments.

The CDC deployed a team of epidemiologists and medical professionals to the Canary Islands, and they also conducted exposure risk assessment for each American passenger and provided recommendations for the level of monitoring required," end quote.
