Public Radio's Gothamist reports that Amtrak and the U.S. Department of Transportation have come out of meetings, and they've agreed to fix up Penn Station right where it is, underneath New York's big Midtown arena.

So here's the plan so far: $8 billion to overhaul, uh, th- th- the new train hall, a big grand entrance into the station off of Eighth Avenue, and new concourses to replace today's cramped walkways.

Uh, here's the expensive part: increased track capacity, including, uh, unlimited through running of New Jersey Transit and Long Island Railroad trains so they don't have to pull into Penn Station one way and then back out the other way just to keep going.

Time Out New York reports the Garden itself will be getting a renovation, a new big glass entrance and an upgraded elevator.

It's one of those consortiums where a bunch of big companies all come together and bid on it as a group to win a mega project.

And the lead is a real estate company called Vornado, I think, Vornado, which owns, uh, a lot of the land around, uh, Penn Station, and, uh, a construction firm called Halmar, which I guess is the lead on the Second Avenue subway extension.

And I think it looks like Skanska's also gonna be part of the, uh, Penn project, too.

Gothamist also report that, uh, exclusive renderings show, uh, the president wants to stamp his name on the wall of the project with a big presidential seal, which makes him a real true New Yorker.
