Emmett likes learning... Seth wants to know, "Why Scott?", and Scott isn't NOT considering a Thunder Roadster... LONG TIME listener Emmett Hodder finally joins us to talk about his development…
Why Thunder Roadster? And for the people, I've talked about it a little bit, but why don't you talk about what the hell it is, and then why?
And, uh, they're based on Legends cars, which, uh, were originally sort of circle track, uh, cars that were real short, small, uh, '34 coupe sort of body, and, uh, run a motorcycle engine and transmission.
And at some point, um, someone thought it might be a good idea to add a couple feet to the wheel base to make them a little less twitchy, and put, uh, sort of sports racer open cockpit body work on them.
And for whatever reason, uh, they have a, a decent following, good group of racers here in the NASA Great Lakes region.
And so I was, uh, we'll probably get back to it later, but I was, I was looking for, uh, my path to wheel to wheel and what I wanted to race, and a buddy had one of these, and let me take it for a spin.
And it was kind of fun, and the numbers kind of made sense, uh, comparing it to other options.
Yeah.
The...
I think part of it that I don't think s- surprised me necessarily but was very compelling, uh, the purchase price is, seems reasonable for a fully prepped wheel to wheel race car.
But then the running costs are pretty silly low.
Um, so brake pad wise, let, let's go through this part.
Why-
... brake pad wise, you were on Hawks, now you're on G-LOX, but even the Hawks, how long were those lasting?
Um, so we're probably something like a five, six weekend season on a set of fronts, and rears go twice as long.
