Our cadre of survivors all sporting their, of course, identical cerulean polo shirts and white shorts-
It's so bad
... it's so ugly, I love it, um, are trundling along in their truck in the direction of the house.
It looms in the distance, eventually coming into view through a small clearing deep within the jungle that you've been making your way along a dirt road towards.
A single two-story suburban house.
It's covered in vines, ferns, surrounded by thick undergrowth.
The whine of mosquitoes can be heard throughout the air.
There's a lawn of, like, grass, now long, unkempt, and thick with weeds, but notably distinct in its, uh, apparent baseline monoculture from the, uh, resplendent humid jungle all around you.
The house is painted cornflower blue, the paint itself faded and peeling, wallpaper thick with mold, uh, and the curtains hang in strips.
You are not alone as you approach the house.
It seems that there is a group of competitors currently holed out within the house proper as you approach.
I'm curious, before we get into the contest itself, I wanna hear a little about your approach so I know how better to describe what details you'd know of this group as you, uh, grow near.
Well, we're driving up.
It's just the quickest way for us to traverse as much ground as possible.
And I think our approach will kinda depend on if we see, like, in the grass, is there another vehicle? Like, did other people drive here and it's clear that the house is, you know, occupied? Is it the type of thing where we drive up and it's only after getting out of the car or near the house that we see people, like, in the windows or doing things?
I think given the situation, uh, I think they are not currently sporting a vehicle, so I think you would get pretty close and you wouldn't have the, the wherewithal of their presence to, like, ditch the car early to have, like, a stealthy approach.
Okay.
So I think it's reasonable to say you'd all be approaching in the truck, and as you get close, uh, a couple of individuals head out from the house, all kind of looking at you warily.
The leader of this group is Galloway.
Gathered together this small alliance, a tontine, as it were.
These are folks who are in it for the money, and they're working together to go as far as they can together, and whoever's last survivor, they're getting that payout.
This is a group of like-minded survivors who are unified by their material interests here.
Galloway himself is a, uh...
He wouldn't tell you this, but he is a failed entrepreneur.
Mm.
