22 Jun 26 – Choosing the Devout Life with Saint Francis

Thank you for joining us on this Monday morning episode of Through His Wounds, and shout out to William for hosting that wonderful hour on Anglicanism.

We are covering a saint who is a Reformation saint as well, and he was battling Calvinism, and the way he battled Calvinism was through writings and pamphlets.

He tried to go out into the streets and preach the good news, but unfortunately he was persecuted for that, driven out of cities, and as we know-

Well, yeah, he was actually chased out, Anthony

Mm-hmm

The Calvinist, I mean, ooh, this saint went through some trials, you know, um, himself.

I mean, he slept at the bottom of the altar of a burnt church.

He-

There we go

... he's done a m- he's done...

He did what some of us would probably say, "You know what? It's not even worth it.

Nobody's listening." You know? And he did.

Right.

And he did it because of faith, you know? Um-

Yes, and that's why he's a good saint for our times because-

Yeah

... um, sometimes it just feels like we're talking to ourselves a lot.

[laughs]

But we have to remember that we, as long as we're using God's good word, which St. Francis de Sales describes as a bouquet of flowers, right?

Yes.

All of the deposit of faith represents a different rose, lily, tulip, all types of flowers, right? And we all can gather up the same flowers, but make millions and millions of different types of arrangements.

Arrangements, yes, amen.

Yeah.

And that's what, um, sharing the faith is like.

We all have different duties.
