... your, uh, initial reaction, but how did you, how did that, how did you feel about that walking out of there?
I was on the, at the women's, the old women's prison on the Near East Side, and it was a really interesting experience to think about what it i- what's, what it's like to go through our carceral system.
The two things that stuck out to me most about that experience, I'll share briefly, is one, how accessible visually that jail is to the community surrounding it, both from the inside and the outside.
And the second thing that I was thinking about was the visitation center and what it would be like, especially as a woman, as a mother, to have a child and then be imprisoned, and then your only interactions with your child be in the moments that you get to share at the visitation center.
Um, but, um, s- uh, but to tie those two thoughts together, like, there were very likely students attending Arsenal High School whose mother was at, in that prison.
So what is it like to walk out of your school every day to go, "My mom is over there," and like, how does that affect both you and your mother-
