So let me ask you, was music a big part of your family and home life growing up? I mean, were people in your family musically inclined?

Both of my brothers... had great taste in music and were very avid music fans, even to the point of being record collectors.

My oldest brother played a little bit of guitar, but he had a guitar when I was 12, when I was 11, and I played it more than he did.

Did any of what they were listening to have an influence on your musical taste? I mean, what kind of stuff was, were they or your family listening to around the house while you were growing up?

My oldest brother had jazz records, Sonny Rollins and Miles Davis and Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley.

He listened to Hank Williams and George Jones and Merle Haggard and Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley and not much more.

But as I got older, he would say things to me like, hey, I heard you listening to Elmore James.
