This week we're talking about wedding planner bugbears, as in things that... grind our gears is that right yeah i think it is whilst planning weddings and i'm going to kick off because this has been bugging me this season and that is when suppliers don't read the information now i am old school and i do things on google i do screenshots of google maps i send what three words and i give because doing marquee weddings we're in people's homes it's not a venue they can't just drive up to a gate and someone tell them where to go I am really particular about sending out details even when you assisted me I think I sent you all yeah yeah and I've had people where they had one supplier had to come in a different entrance and I sent them their specific instructions and on the day the delivery driver calls and they're like where am I meant to go and I'm like you know someone's in the office should have sent that to you and they're like no they've not told me anything and then I'm like okay can I whatsapp you and they're like yes use this number and then you can't whatsapp them and then i'm trying to send them the what three words and i'm trying to send them the screenshots and i'm like what is the point read the information like it's so frustrating as a planner we want the best so you've done all that work and it's so wasted because people never read it we do it because we want to help the suppliers be able to do the job that they're being i find though this
filters all the way through to um less okay to us yes but photographers videographers like suppliers that are there on the day yeah don't don't know what's going on where and you're like i've sent you all this information or you get the supplier that is hell-bent on sticking to it within the second oh and i hate those ones too like it's it is a really tricky thing because i always find like i'll send them all this information i'll be like on the day it goes with the flow yeah if the bride is 20 minutes late because she's had a mental breakdown about something that's happened the bride is 20 minutes late and we will work with that this is here to guide us through so you know what is expected of you at what time yes i get it's overwhelming but this is that's all there you are in like you know what is going on so like read it please but i
also i know i do this and i know you do this when i've helped you is whole point of having a planner is that when things inevitably go off schedule things change you need to like ship things around in the schedule the planner's job is to be the one who then communicates that changes and checks that it's okay with all the relevant suppliers yeah so yes the schedule's there
our job is to also make sure that people are in the right place at the right time.
Do you know what I've started doing so I used to when I did it is I would break the timeline down by supplier and send them the timeline that suited their needs.
Now, because 90% of them don't read it, I send one giant one.
I say, some of it's not relevant to you.
Some of it is.
Most of them don't read it.
And I'm just like, then I've not done the extra work.
And the three hours probably of... stuff and then all the delivery instructions I copy and paste out of the timeline and put just in the email
yeah
so then I'm just like then you can just look at the email because people do read their emails rather than opening a document and I found that that works better
yeah
but you still have to like on the day someone will ring you up and you're like it's all there in black and white why I don't why are you wasting my time because people don't like to think no I don't like to use their
brains no and I having worked with you very early on in my career and seeing how you do it.
And a prime example of, we've mentioned it before, the photographer who didn't read the schedule and you had yours all beautifully broken down for people.
I've gone, you're right.
You know, people don't read it.
So I do like a key timings.
So I ride in dress, guests arrive, ceremony, cocktails, call to marquee, dinner, speeches, that.
And I print and I say that to the photographer, I send them that.
I send the caterers and the photographer and videographer that.
that and my full schedule they never look at either and i just have a copy they used to print off spare copies of like my nine page
document no one's around and i
