In this episode, I dive into one concept of serve reception and passing that could be the reason your players are struggling with their pass. I see it a lot at the youth level. We talk about: 3…
And we're talking about the most common topic in volleyball amongst coaches, and that is passing.
Serve receive, passing, this is one that every coach wants to help their players improve.
And when you go and look at film and when you go look at player development, gener- generally it starts from this area.
I've done breakdowns on how to teach your players serve receive, and there is a lot of them.
So if you go and you search up serve receive or passing in the podcast, there is a handful of episodes that I encourage you to listen to that are gonna help you with, uh, your, your players.
And the latest ones are probably the better ones because over the last, I'd say six years, my approach to teaching serve receive ha- has changed a bit.
Now some of the principles remain the same but, you know, working with a lot of the best passers in the world and the best coaches, I've, I'm now...
Okay, this is, I'm gonna sound arrogant when I say this, so don't take this the wrong way, but I think I've mastered the art of serve receive as a coach.
I mean, and I have a lot of people that come to me looking to help improve their players' serve receive.
And, and I have players that come in my gym looking to help their serve receive because, yeah, it's, you know, it's funny, I was talking to our national team coach the other day, and he was talking about writing a book on serve receive because we teach the same methodology, and it's, it's all about principle-based.
These are pr- these are, you know, we, we teach based on principle and physics and science and the way the body moves, and it's just not something you can argue.
So the more that you can take it in and apply it to your, to your players, the, the better they're gonna be.
Uh, and it's funny, I was, this weekend here in Ontario where I live, in the province of Ontario, we had our Ontario championships where, you know, this is it.
And even in, in this, you know, I'm looking at, I'm watching some gold medal matches, 18-year gold medal matches, and a, a lot of it, you know, reception was still a big factor in a lot of the success of the teams.
How well, and, and I looked at mechanics from both teams, and I could see there still needs, needs a lot of work to be done.
