The Lego Method: The Secret To Faster Skill Acquisition (Passing Edition)

So this episode w- was inspired by a breakthrough that I had years ago.

And what happened was I was...

And again, I don't remember how long ago, but this was years ago.

I was doing Lego, okay? So, uh, um, it was either with my, my daughter or my son.

It was one of them.

And I was doing Lego, and if anybody has ever put together a Lego, like, figurine or, or object or anything like that, it comes with a set of instructions.

And the instructions it comes with are absolutely incredible.

It is step by step.

I mean, what I mean, like, anybody could follow these instructions and create these amazing Lego figures.

Like, just unbelievable, like, the most intricate Lego, uh, machines and figurines and objects that you've ever seen.

And the reason why you can create it is because the Lego manual is a step-by-step, like, it's, it spells it out for you in such clear and precise manner.

So it will say, "Put this piece here.

Put that piece there." And when you finish, you have a completely built structure.

And I remember years ago listening to this, and...

Or sorry, reading this, and I'm like, "Why can't volleyball be this simple? Why can't anything we do in life be this simple?" We just get a step-by-step manual on exactly what it's supposed to look like and how to construct it.

And it got me thinking, why can't I apply this to teaching the skills of our game? Step-by-step approach.

And by the way, in Lego...

So if I'm building-- I remember I was building a car.

I was building a Lego car.

And I didn't understand why I was doing certain things the way it was at the time until I saw the finished product.

And it also built it in, in parts.

So I would start with, you know, the body of the car, and it would be like instructions one to 20 was for the lower body of the car, like the wheels and the base and stuff like that.

And then it would get to the f- the, the, the fra- not the frame, but, like, the upper part of the car, the windows, the doors and all that stuff.

And it built it in sections.
